Tetrasodium EDTA is considered a potential antimicrobial agent that can be used for skin care and wounds (1).
In particular, in the dental field, since dentures and toothbrushes can easily be contaminated by bacterial and virus biofilms, there is a need for disinfection methods that are quickly effective, convenient, non-toxic and easy to apply. These studies indicate that Tetrasodium EDTA can provide a solution to disinfection applications in the oral hygiene sector (2).
For this component however, used in detergents and disinfectants, several cases of allergic rhinitis have been reported and laboratory tests have documented that, exposure to aerosols, spays or EDTA inhalation can cause positive allergic responses. And it is therefore advisable not to supply it in spray cans (3).
