Compendium of the most significant studies with reference to properties, intake, effects.
Margraf J, Ehlers A, Roth WT. Sodium lactate infusions and panic attacks: a review and critique. Psychosom Med. 1986 Jan-Feb;48(1-2):23-51. doi: 10.1097/00006842-198601000-00002.
Abstract. Response to sodium lactate infusions has been proposed as an experimental model and a biologic marker for panic attacks. Several authors have claimed that patients suffering from panic attacks, but not normal controls, "panic" in response to lactate. A careful review of methods and results of 13 studies, however, reveals serious methodologic problems, lack of specificity and sensitivity, and a failure to consider cognitive variables.
Santos AMD, Costa JM, Braga JK, Flynn TM, Brucha G, Sancinetti GP, Rodriguez RP. Lactate as an effective electron donor in the sulfate reduction: impacts on the microbial diversity. Environ Technol. 2021 May 6:1-12. doi: 10.1080/09593330.2021.1916092.
Abstract. This study investigated the performance of six batch sulfidogenic reactors in response to different COD/sulfate ratios (1.0 and 2.0) and electron donors (cheese whey, ethanol, and sodium lactate) by evaluating the biochemical mechanisms of sulfate reduction, organic matter oxidation, and microbial structure modification.
Besnier E, Coquerel D, Kouadri G, Clavier T, Favory R, Duburcq T, Lesur O, Bekri S, Richard V, Mulder P, Tamion F. Hypertonic sodium lactate improves microcirculation, cardiac function, and inflammation in a rat model of sepsis. Crit Care. 2020 Jun 16;24(1):354. doi: 10.1186/s13054-020-03083-2.
Abstract. Hypertonic sodium lactate (HSL) may be of interest during inflammation. We aimed to evaluate its effects during experimental sepsis in rats
Zhang J, Huang F, Chen L, Li G, Lei W, Zhao J, Liao Y, Li Y, Li C, Chen M. Sodium Lactate Accelerates M2 Macrophage Polarization and Improves Cardiac Function after Myocardial Infarction in Mice. Cardiovasc Ther. 2021 Jun 5;2021:5530541. doi: 10.1155/2021/5530541.
Abstract. After myocardial infarction, anti-inflammatory macrophages perform key homeostatic functions that facilitate cardiac recovery and remodeling. Several studies have shown that lactate may serve as a modifier that influences phenotype of macrophage. However, the therapeutic role of sodium lactate in myocardial infarction (MI) is unclear.
Ichai C, Orban JC, Fontaine E. Sodium lactate for fluid resuscitation: the preferred solution for the coming decades? Crit Care. 2014 Jul 7;18(4):163. doi: 10.1186/cc13973.
Abstract. In a recent issue of Critical Care, 0.5 M sodium lactate infusion for 24 hours was reported to increase cardiac output in patients with acute heart failure. This effect was associated with a concomitant metabolic alkalosis and a negative water balance.
________
In cured meats, sodium lactate is used to inhibit sporigenic growth, particularly Clostridium perfringens (1).
In the combined use of chitosan, nisin and sodium lactate on the growth of Listeria innocua, Shewanella putrefaciens and psychrophilic bacteria isolated from fish, for the inhibition of microorganisms related to fish spoilage (2).
