Pyrophosphate, sequestering calcium in the body, is a potent mitogen, capable of stimulating proliferation in multiple cell types, and a critical participant in bone mineralization (1).

Disodium pyrophosphate  is a chemical component used as an additive in the food and cosmetics industry with the following functions:

• leavening agent
• acidity stabilizer (pH)
• antioxidant

We find it in:
