Amyl Cinnamal is a fragrance that could be associated with sensitizing mechanisms and/or allergic reactions (1).
Together with 7 other perfume components, Amyl cinnamal is considered an excellent screening agent for contact allergies to perfumes (2).
Regarding the sensitization induced on the skin by fragrances, some non-reactive compounds such as α-isomethyl ionone, benzyl alcohol, amyl cinnamal and farnesol have become reactive after photo-oxidative degradation (3).
In this study an ex vivo comparison of the sensitization potency of different fragrances including Amyl cinnamal which achieved a moderate result (4).
