Phenothrin is a insecticide based on pyrethrum, also known as fenothrin or Sumithrin. The compounds of the pyrethrum (chrysanthemum acid) obtained chemically, have the characteristic of imitating the pyrethrin (which is extracted from the chrysanthemum) which paralyzes the nervous system of insects.
Phenothrin acts by contact or by ingestion in the injections, while it is less toxic to mammals due to their higher body temperature.
It can be irritating to human skin and pets, especially for the cat.
It is classified by the EPA as non-carcinogenic to humans, at low doses.
Toxic for fish and other aquatic animals, but especially for bees.
