Peter Boyle (Peter Lawrence Boyle Jr. 18 Oct 1935, Norristown, Pensylvania, USA - 12 Dec 2006, Manhattan, Ney York, USA), was an American actor known for his versatility and ability to portray a wide range of characters. Before becoming an actor, Boyle studied as a Catholic monk but left the order to pursue a career in acting. After studying acting in New York, he began working in theater and then in film and television. Boyle became famous for his portrayal of often gruff but endearing characters.

Boyle was passionate about politics and social activism, actively participating in various causes throughout his life. He was also a big fan of music, particularly rock and roll, and had a strong interest in spirituality and meditation, which he explored after suffering a heart attack in 1990.
