What is Olaflur - Amine fluoride

It is a chemical compound that contain both an amine and an alcohol group.  It comes in the form of a solid powder.

Description of the raw materials that form it:

  • Fluoride: The main component of Olaflur is fluoride. Fluoride can be obtained from natural sources or can be chemically synthesized to be used as an active ingredient in oral hygiene products.

Summary of the industrial chemical synthesis process step-by-step:

  • Preparation of reagents: The reagents required for the synthesis of Olaflur, such as fluoride, are prepared and accurately dosed.
  • Chemical reaction: Fluoride undergoes a specific chemical reaction, involving other reagents or solvents, to form the Olaflur compound.
  • Refining and purification: The reaction product undergoes refining and purification processes to remove any impurities or unwanted residual reagents.
  • Characterization of the product: The synthesized Olaflur is characterized using chemical and physical analyses to confirm its identity and evaluate its properties, such as fluoride concentration.
  • Formulation of the finished product: The synthesized Olaflur is incorporated into the formulation of the toothpaste or oral hygiene product along with other active and auxiliary ingredients.
  • Production of the finished product: The complete formulation is produced in large quantities and packaged in tubes or bottles for distribution and use.

What is it for?

Medical

It is mainly used in toothpastes and mouthwashes as a dental caries protector (1) and to reduce stains on teeth that may form with the use of oral compositions containing cationic antimicrobials.

Cosmetics

INCI functions:

Antiplaque agent. This ingredient has the property of preventing the onset of caries by fighting the bacteria responsible for acid corrosion of teeth.

This ingredient can be placed in the oral cavity to improve and/or maintain oral hygiene and health, to prevent or improve a disorder of the teeth, gums, mucous membrane.  It provides cosmetic effects to the oral cavity as a protector, cleanser, deodorant.

Commercial applications

Cavity Prevention. Olaflur is an active ingredient in many toothpastes and mouthwashes to prevent tooth decay.

Remineralization. It aids in the remineralization of tooth enamel, strengthening teeth and preventing demineralization.

Sensitivity Treatment. It can be used in specific products to treat tooth sensitivity.

Desensitizing Agents. Olaflur can form a protective layer on teeth, shielding them from external stimuli like heat or cold.

However, fluorine compounds have different efficacy depending on the product and concentration (2).

Abstract. Objective: The aim of the present study was to investigate the anticaries potential of a new sodium fluoride dentifrice in comparison to two commercial dentifrices containing different fluoride compounds by determining enamel fluoride uptake (EFU) and early caries lesion remineralization (REM) in an established in vitro caries remineralization/demineralization pH cycling model.....Conclusion: The present study has demonstrated that fluoride dentifrices vary in their capability of enhancing anticaries potential as determined using an established in vitro caries cycling model. The new dentifrice NaF showed superior predicted anticaries potential compared to the two commercial dentifrices AmF and SnNaF in this model, which demonstrates the importance of fluoride compound and formulation excipients on driving anticaries potential in vitro.
