Spermidine is a very interesting and particular polycation and polyamine that participates in a series of biological procedures, some of which are known and still unknown.
It can be said generically that this particle prolongs the life of various organisms, including the common yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae), some nematode insects (Caenorhabditis elegans) and flies (Drosophila melanogaster). In laboratory tests in rats, it significantly reduces the oxidative damage that leads to aging.
This particle can act as a universal anti-aging drug (1) and combats old-age diseases such as Parkinson's and memory loss (2).
It also reduces the loss of locomotor activity related to age (3).
In the scalp it prolongs and regulates the functions of human epithelial stem cells in hair follicles (4).
It contributes, with its anti-inflammatory characteristics to protect the colon and in this study that refers to feminine subjects, it has been noted a utility for the health of the colon (5).
