Something's Gotta Give is a 2003 film directed by Nancy Meyers. The film's plot is a romantic comedy that tells the story of a famous playwright who becomes involved with the mother of a young woman with whom he had a brief fling.

Plot

The story revolves around Erica Barry (played by Diane Keaton), a successful and famous playwright who is spending a romantic vacation at a luxurious beachfront house. Her vacation takes an unexpected turn when young doctor Julian Mercer (played by Keanu Reeves) pays her a visit after Erica suffers a heart attack.

Erica is initially skeptical of Julian, but the two develop an unexpected connection despite their age difference. Meanwhile, Harry Sanborn (played by Jack Nicholson), a fifty-something playboy and successful businessman, accompanies his young girlfriend Marin (played by Amanda Peet) to the same beachfront house.

The plot complicates when Harry, known for his relationships with younger women, develops a serious attraction to Erica, Marin's mother. This leads to a series of comedic and romantic situations as Erica and Harry grapple with their conflicting feelings and age differences.

The film explores themes of love, aging, compromise, and the possibility of unexpectedly finding love. It is known for the performances of Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson and its blend of romantic comedy.

The film achieved significant success at the box office and is considered one of the beloved romantic comedies of the 2000s.

My opinion: Of course, at 63 years of age and with established habits, it is difficult to change one's life, but this very well written and directed story places no limits on change. Very entertaining film with very good actors and comprimariums a little less so, but it unfolds with great attention to detail, good music and excellent cinematography of the California coastline and interiors.

I found the direction to be very careful in exploiting every detail of the set design and script to bring out the humorous and comic sense of this film, which is a pleasure to watch, amusing and very funny.
