Safflower oil is extracted from the Carthamus Tinctorius L. plant and is used in several industries.

Carthamus Tinctorius L. is widely used in traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of cerebrovascular and cardiovascular disease. According to the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, it mainly promotes blood circulation and removes blood stasis (1).

Food

For the preparation of vegetable margarine, as a food flavorer, in kefir, in baked goods.

Medicine

For the extraction of linoleic acid and as an anti-inflammatory.

Cosmetic

In body creams, hands and more.

Anti-inflammatory and antioxidants substances present (2):

  • Oleic acid from 55.12% to 83.26%
  • Steal acid from 2.93% to 25.09%
  • Linoleic acid from 14.09% to 19.06%
This study  found that SCE administration in vivo significantly increased the survival, improved cardiac function, and inhibited myocardial tissue inflammation in mice (3).
 
Safety
 
There have been some cases of people who, in order to lose weight, have abused this oil causing irreversible damage to the liver (4).
