Polydextrose has shown post-prandial benefits, energy intake and improved intestinal function (1).

Constipation is a frequent complaint and the combination of a prebiotic and probiotics could potentially have a synergistic effect on intestinal transit. A product containing yoghurt with polydextrose, B. lactis HN019 and L. acidophilus NCFM®, significantly reduced colon transit time after two weeks and may be an option for the treatment of constipation (2).

A meal supplemented with Polydextrose may offer a means of reducing atherosclerotic risk factors (3).

Polydextrose increased postprandial secretion of the satiety hormone GLP-1 and reduced hunger after a high-fat meal; it also reduced elevated postprandial lactic acid levels in plasma. Therefore, Polydextrose could offer an additional means to regulate inter-meal satiety and improve postprandial metabolism in obese people (4).
