Benzotriazole  is a chemical compound, a member of the benzotriazole class.

It appears in the form of a white powder odorless.

What it is used for and where

Industry

It is a  bicyclic heterocyclic system corrosion inhibitor for copper and alloys, silver, cobalt, aluminum and zinc.

It demonstrated higher thermal stability than 1,2,3-triazole and is advantageous in many near-neutral solutions and not appreciably mineralised by UV irradiation.

Used in:

  • antifreeze fluids, aircraft de-icing
  • metal cleaning
  • copper antioxidant
  • corrosion protection
  • machine dishwashing detergents for silver protection 

Cosmetics

Antimicrobial agent. This ingredient is able to suppress or inhibit the growth and replication of a broad spectrum of microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi and viruses by making the stratum corneum temporarily bactericidal and fungicidal.
