Berberis aristata is an Indian medicinal plant used in Ayurvedic medicine as an anti-inflammatory for various diseases: fever, skin infections, osteoporosis and more.

It belongs to the Berberidaceae family, where we also find:

• Berberis vulgaris (barberry)
• Berberis aquifolium (Oregon grape)

The plant is distributed mainly in the mountains in the Himalayas, Bhutan, Nilgiri, Srilanka.

Berberine, an ammonium quartz salt, an alkaloid with neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory and protective properties of the cardiovascular system is extracted from these plants.
