Agema Thermovision® 870 is designed for identifying hot-spots and malfunctioning components in electric power systems, examining industrial equipment and processes for heat losses, inspecting buildings or tracing leaks in heating systems and condition monitoring. Direct temperature read-outs are obtained from a microcomputer within the -20° to 500° C range.

Agema Thermovision® 870 uses a facet tracking system in which silicon or germanium lenses are used to focus the image into a mirror optic scanning system. Vertical scanning is produced by an oscillating aspherical mirror just behind the objective lens assembly. The reflected ray is folded by reflection from an aspherical mirror, a flat mirror and from three mirrors mounted on a component to have a single axis. Two of the mirrors are aspherical.

Horizontal scanning is accomplished by a ten-facet polygon mirror totated at 15.000 RPM. The high efficiency of the facet tracking system gives good response using a thermoelectrically cooled change in temperature. The polycrystalline detector must be poled to align the pyroelectric axis prior to use. (Poling is the process of cooling the crystal through its ferroelectric transition temperature under a DC field to align all domains in the same direction).

A television tube based on tryglycine sulfate in manufactured by Thomson CSF as Pyricon tube. The tube is sensitive to long wavelenghts so very low temperatures can be detected compared to other thermal imaging methods.
