Hederagenin is a pentacyclic triterpenoid, monocarboxylic dihydroxy acid and sapogenin. It comes from an oleanolic acid.

It is found in ivy (Hedera helix L.) and many plants (Lonicera fulvotomentosa, Paeonia Ostii, Akebiae Caulis, Momordica cochinchinensis, Crossopteryx Febrifuga, Caulophyllum robustum, Medicago truncatula, Chenopodium Quinoa, Blighia unijugata, Achyranthes bidentate, Cussonia bancoensis, Clematidis Radix).

The scientific literature attributes it a wide range of properties such as anti-inflammatory, antidepressant, hepatoprotective (1).

Hederagenin inhibits proliferation and facilitates apoptosis of cervical cancer cells by inhibition of the STAT3 signaling pathway (1).
