Ricoh THETA SC is a camera that records 360° photos and videos and is operational in 1.5 seconds from power on. It is compatible with VR virtual reality viewers.

Let's look at how to use it.

Use your smartphone to search for the WiFi network of THETA SC , for exampleTHETAYJxxxxx. 

It usually finds it immediately, otherwise check with "Search Devices".

A password is requested. The password is numeric and is the serial number of the THETA excluding the first two letters. The serial number is located under the USB connector.

Example: the serial number is YJ 21223355. The password will be 21223355.

The WiFi connection is rather slow and, often breaks, at least in the two samples we tested, while the USB connection works perfectly.

360° shooting starts with the press of the shutter button and there's no need to set the camera's angle of view, tilt or focus. THETA does it all by itself. Obviously, if you don't want to appear in the scene, raise the camera above your head or control it via WiFi from your Smartphone or computer with applications downloadable from the site.

RICOH THETA has 4 shooting modes: "Auto", "ISO Priority" and "Manual" .In "Auto" shooting, the camera, in addition to being set to the optimal mode, allows you to perform exposure correction and HDR technique.

App

All the options listed above can be activated only via the smartphone app, however, since the RICOH app is always up to date, It may happen that the app cannot be installed on older or outdated Apple or Android phones. Error messages say:

(Android) Your device is not compatible with this version.

(Apple) This item requires iOS 12.0 or later.

In addition to seeing the images in static mode, with the app on your smartphone and the app on your computer you can see the image in 360° rotation.

The app that is installed on the computer is very simple and does not allow the options listed above, but only the firmware update that works well and the viewing of photos that need to be uploaded via the "Open" command. The "Drag and drop spherical photo" command doesn't work for me.

Service

Inside is a rechargeable RICOH DB-110 3.6v 1,350mA Li-Ion battery. 

Since the cost of the original battery is high, you can buy a compatible battery with lower amperage. Even 950mA is acceptable.

To replace it, you need to lift the plastic that surrounds the hole for the tripod, unscrew the two upper screws, lift the cover.

Recharging the battery, via the USB cable connected to the computer, is slow and takes at least 4 to 5 hours for a full charge.
