Elemi oil is made from a 30-meter-high tropical tree growing in the Philippines.

In addition to an essential oil, it is a resin and has a pungent smell.

It was used by the ancient Egyptians in embalming processes.

Today it is used in cosmetics as perfume.

In pharmaceuticals it is used for skin care, to stimulate breathing.

Among the components of this oil is Elemicin, an aromatic alkenylbenzene constituent that is also found in the most widespread nutmeg (Myristica fragrans Houtt.) and which has psychoactive properties.
