Sodium cocoyl barley amino acids is a product of plant origin obtained chemically by starting with amino acids from barley protein and, by condensation, reacting with the sodium salt of coconut acid.  It is composed of amino acids typical of barley protein, and the interaction between this amino acid patchwork forms a lipo-amino acid complex.

It appears as a yellowish to dark brown powder or as an odourless and colourless transparent liquid that is soluble in water.
