Polypentene is a chemical compound, polyene, with simple hydrocarbon structures with no functional groups other than alkenes or alkanes, produced by the polymerisation of vinyl monomers such as alkenes or olefin and obtained from the polymerisation of pentene monomers. It is a polymeric ingredient using an ethylene unit.

Industrial Chemical Synthesis of Polypentene

  • Hydrogenation.Polyisoprene is exposed to hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst. This process hydrogenates the double bonds in the polymer, transforming it into polypentene.
  • Cooling and Recovery. After hydrogenation, the polymer is cooled and recovered from the reactor.
  • Purification and Modification. The polymer can be further purified and modified to achieve desired properties, such as strength or flexibility.

Insoluble in organic solvents or water, soluble only in special organic solvents.

Cosmetics

Properties. Acts as an emollient, giving cosmetics a soft and smooth feel. It is known for its ability to form a light film on the skin or lips.

Film-forming agent. It produces a continuous ultra-thin film with an optimal balance of cohesion, adhesion and stickiness on the skin or hair to counteract or limit damage from external phenomena such as chemicals, UV rays and pollution.
