Perilla Frutescens Seed Extract is a chemical compound obtained by extracting, drying and washing the seeds of the annual plant Perilla Frutescens (Shiso) belonging to the Labiatae botanical family.

Industrially it appears in the form of a brown powder.

What it is used for and where

Food

Grilling meat, fish, poultry on the barbecue, frying meat at high temperatures and with poor quality oils can develop heterocyclic amines, a group of compounds that can cause colorectal cancer. To avoid this danger, many food manufacturers include seeds and leaves of vegetable products in seasonings: cinnamon, olive extract, pomegranate seeds, etc. Perilla Frutescens seeds have shown antioxidant activity due to the polyphenol content present.

Perilla Frutescens seeds contain an edible oil to which scientific literature attributes the ability to help reduce the risk of various diseases such as coronary heart disease and cancer (2).

Cosmetics

Skin conditioning agent. It is the mainstay of topical skin treatment as it has the function of restoring, increasing or improving skin tolerance to external factors, including melanocyte tolerance. The most important function of the conditioning agent is to prevent skin dehydration, but the subject is rather complex and involves emollients and humectants that can be added in the formulation.

Medical

In traditional medical practice, this plant is used as an anti-asthmatic, antipyretic, expectorant, analgesic and anti-inflammatory remedy.
