The Curse of Monkey Island is the third installment in the Monkey Island series of graphic adventure games, developed and published by LucasArts in 1997. It is the first game in the series to be made in 2D animated graphics. The game continues the adventures of the protagonist, Guybrush Threepwood, a young aspiring pirate.

Plot

Guybrush Threepwood, after drifting at sea for several days, arrives on Plunder Island, where he discovers that his beloved Elaine Marley has been turned into a gold statue by a cursed ring. Guybrush must find a way to break the curse. During his adventure, he encounters various characters, including his nemesis, the zombie pirate LeChuck.

Gameplay

The gameplay revolves around solving puzzles and engaging in dialogues with other characters. Players can choose between two difficulty modes: "Mega-Monkey Mode" (more challenging) and an easier mode.

Development

The game was developed using the SCUMM engine, previously used for other LucasArts titles. The graphics were created in 2D, featuring smooth and detailed animation. The soundtrack was composed by Michael Land.

Reception

The game received positive reviews for its graphics, gameplay, and humor. It is considered one of the best games in the Monkey Island series.
