MALAHIT DSP2 and HDSDR step by step

The procedure is quite complex and must be performed correctly, otherwise the two devices will not connect.

Connection Interface: MALAHIT DSP2 communicates with HDSDR via the USB cable (COM port).

Software Requirement: HDSDR must have a specific file in its main directory to communicate with receivers (RX) or transceivers (RX TX).

  1. Software Installation: Download and install HDSDR from https://hdsdr.de/download/HDSDR_install.exe

  2. Do Not Launch Immediately: After installing, do not start HDSDR immediately.

  3. Download Required Files: Visit https://github.com/hayguen/ExtIO_RTL/releases and download ExtIO_RTL_x32_*.zip.

  4. Extract the File: Extract ExtIO_RTL_x32_*.zip into a folder of your choice. As of November 2024, the latest driver is ExtIO_RTL.dll.

  5. Copy the DLL File: Copy ExtIO_RTL.dll into the HDSDR installation folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\HDSDR).

  6. Restart the Computer: Restart your computer after completing the installation.

  7. Check COM Port: Open Device Manager and note which COM port is being used. In this case, COM 4.

  • Essential Procedure: It is crucial to follow the steps below; otherwise, the connection will not function.

  • Download OmniRig: Download the OmniRig program from https://dxatlas.com/omnirig/, which will install in the Programs (x86) directory under a folder named Afreet.

  • Run OmniRig as Administrator: Launch OmniRig.exe as Administrator, select COM 4, and then click OK.

  • Power On MALAHIT DSP2: Turn on the MALAHIT DSP2 device.

  • Launch HDSDR as Administrator: Start HDSDR as Administrator (select ExtIO_RTL.dll and the output sound card if required).

  • Confirm Settings: Click on OK.

  • Default Tuning: HDSDR will automatically tune to the default frequency of 100.000 MHz and now will control MALAHIT and vice versa.

  • Set Frequency: Adjust the frequency to 136.975 either on MALAHIT or on HDSDR.

  • Adjust Bandwidth: Set the Input Bandwidth to 192000 to better visualize the signals.

HDSDR Settings:

  • Right-click on "SDR Device" to access device settings.

Sound Card Settings:

  • Left-click on "Sound Card" to configure audio settings.

Bandwidth Settings:

  • Left-click on "Bandwidth" to adjust the bandwidth settings.

Accessing Options:

  • Left-click on "Options" to open the options menu and modify additional settings.

RF Front-End Configuration:

  • Left-click on "RF Front-End Configuration," which should have been configured previously.

Calibration Settings:

  • Left-click on "Calibration Settings" to access and adjust the calibration parameters.

HDSDR Recording Setting and Scheduler:

  • Left-click on "HDSDR Recording Setting and Scheduler" to configure recording options and set up a schedule for automatic recordings.

DigiMode Settings:

  • Left-click on "DigiMode Settings" to adjust settings for digital modes within HDSDR.

After these settings, the MALAHIT DSP2 and HDSDR system is ready to receive signals. You can connect a program like MULTIPSK for decoding amateur and professional radio signals.
