Saccharomyces/Angelica dahurica Root Ferment Extract Filtrate is a cosmetic ingredient obtained from the fermentation of Angelica dahurica root with Saccharomyces yeast, followed by a filtration process to isolate the purest and most concentrated bioactive compounds. This filtrate is valued for its ability to enhance skin brightness, promote cell regeneration, and provide deep hydration. It is widely used in products for sensitive, dehydrated, or damaged skin due to its soothing and revitalizing properties.

Chemical Composition and Structure

The ferment filtrate contains the lightest and most bioavailable compounds from Angelica dahurica root, including flavonoids, polysaccharides, furanocoumarins, and bioactive peptides. The fermentation process with Saccharomyces breaks down complex root molecules, making them more easily absorbed by the skin and boosting the filtrate's regenerative and hydrating effects. Furanocoumarins help brighten the skin tone, while polysaccharides improve hydration and strengthen the skin barrier.

Physical Properties

Saccharomyces/Angelica dahurica Root Ferment Extract Filtrate is a clear, lightweight liquid, water-soluble, and easy to incorporate into serums, lotions, gels, and creams. Thanks to the filtration process, the product is especially pure, with a high concentration of bioavailable actives that are quickly absorbed by the skin, providing an immediate effect of hydration and brightness.

Production Process

The filtrate is obtained through a controlled fermentation process, in which Angelica dahurica root is fermented with Saccharomyces yeast. After fermentation, the liquid is filtered to remove impurities and create a concentrate of light, easily absorbable bioactive substances. This process optimizes the yield of bioactive compounds and increases their bioavailability.

Applications

  • Cosmetics: Saccharomyces/Angelica dahurica Root Ferment Extract Filtrate is mainly used in moisturizing, anti-aging, and brightening products. Due to its regenerative and soothing properties, it is ideal for dehydrated or sensitive skin. It is also used in facial serums and creams designed to even skin tone, reduce dark spots, and improve overall brightness. It is particularly effective in post-inflammatory and regenerative treatments for damaged skin.

INCI Functions:

Antimicrobial agent. This ingredient is able to suppress or inhibit the growth and replication of a broad spectrum of microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi and viruses by making the stratum corneum temporarily bactericidal and fungicidal.

Humectant. Hygroscopic compound used to minimise water loss in the skin and to prevent it from drying out by facilitating faster and greater absorption of water into the stratum corneum of the epidermis.  The epidermis is the most superficial of the three layers that make up human skin (epidermis, dermis and hypodermis) and is the layer that maintains hydration in all three layers. In turn, the epidermis is composed of five layers: horny, the most superficial, granular, spinous, shiny, and basal. Humectants have the ability to retain the water they attract from the air in the stratum corneum and have the function of moisturising the skin. They are best used before emollients, which are oil-based.

Skin conditioning agent - Emollient. Emollients have the characteristic of enhancing the skin barrier through a source of exogenous lipids that adhere to the skin, improving barrier properties by filling gaps in intercorneocyte clusters to improve hydration while protecting against inflammation. In practice, they have the ability to create a barrier that prevents transepidermal water loss.  Emollients are described as degreasing or refreshing additives that improve the lipid content of the upper layers of the skin by preventing degreasing and drying of the skin. The problem with emollients is that many have a strong lipophilic character and are identified as occlusive ingredients; they are oily and fatty materials that remain on the skin surface and reduce transepidermal water loss. In cosmetics, emollients and moisturisers are often considered synonymous with humectants and occlusives.

Environmental and Safety Considerations

Saccharomyces/Angelica dahurica Root Ferment Extract Filtrate is considered safe for cosmetic use, thanks to its lightweight formula and reduction of potentially irritating compounds during fermentation. However, since it may contain traces of furanocoumarins, it is recommended to avoid direct sun exposure after use. The fermentation process is eco-friendly, requires no harmful chemicals, and adheres to environmental sustainability standards.
