Belize
Belize is a country located on the eastern coast of Central America, bordered by Mexico to the north, Guatemala to the west and south, and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. It is known for its cultural and natural diversity, with a rich Maya history and a multiethnic population. The capital is Belmopan, but the largest and historical city is Belize City. Belize is famous for the Belize Barrier Reef, the second largest in the world, attracting divers and snorkelers from around the globe. The culture of Belize is a unique mix of Maya, Creole, Mestizo, Garifuna, and British influences, reflected in the language (English is the official language), cuisine, and traditions. Belize's economy is based on tourism, agriculture (particularly sugar cane and citrus production), and fishing. The country is also known for its Maya archaeological sites, such as Caracol and Xunantunich, and its biodiversity, with numerous protected areas and nature reserves. Belize gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1981 and has since been a parliamentary democracy within the Commonwealth.
