Chile
Chile is a long, narrow country located on the western coast of South America, bordering Peru, Bolivia, and Argentina. It is known for its extraordinary geographical diversity, stretching from the Atacama Desert, the driest desert in the world, in the north, to the glaciers and fjords of Patagonia in the south. The capital, Santiago, is situated in a valley surrounded by the Andes and the Coastal Range. Chilean culture is a mix of indigenous, particularly Mapuche, and Spanish influences, with modern elements. Chile's economy is one of the most stable and prosperous in Latin America, primarily based on copper mining, agriculture and wine, as well as tourism. Chile is famous for its high-quality wines and its artistic and literary scene, with poets like Pablo Neruda and Gabriela Mistral having won the Nobel Prize in Literature. The country has a long democratic tradition, though it went through a period of military dictatorship in the 20th century.
