Cyprus
Cyprus, officially Republic of Cyprus, is an island located in the Eastern Mediterranean. It is the third largest island in the Mediterranean and is situated south of Turkey, west of Syria and Lebanon, northwest of Israel, north of Egypt, and southeast of Greece. The capital of Cyprus is Nicosia. The island has a long and complex history, with Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman, and British influences. Cyprus is divided into two parts: the Republic of Cyprus, a member of the European Union, which controls about two-thirds of the island, and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, recognized only by Turkey. The island is known for its beautiful beaches, archaeological sites, and Mediterranean climate. Cypriot culture is a mix of Greek and Turkish influences, with a cuisine that reflects this diversity. Cyprus is also famous for the production of halloumi cheese and Commandaria wine.
