El Salvador
El Salvador is the smallest and most densely populated country in Central America, bordered by Honduras to the northeast, Guatemala to the northwest, and with a long coastline on the Pacific Ocean to the south. The capital is San Salvador, located in the Valley of Hammocks. Salvadoran culture is a mix of indigenous and Spanish influences, evident in music, dance, art, and cuisine, famous for "pupusas", a type of stuffed tortilla. El Salvador's economy is based on agriculture, particularly coffee and sugar cane, manufacturing industry, and services, with a significant role played by remittances from emigrants. The country has a history of civil conflict and political instability, but has made progress towards peace and democracy since the end of the civil war in 1992.
