Kazakhstan, officially Republic of Kazakhstan, is a country mainly located in Central Asia, with a small part in Eastern Europe. It is the ninth-largest country in the world by land area. It borders Russia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan, and has an extensive coastline on the Caspian Sea. The capital of Kazakhstan is Nur-Sultan, formerly known as Astana. The country is known for its vast steppes, mountainous landscapes, and large deposits of natural resources, including oil and natural gas. Kazakhstan has a rich and complex history, with cultural influences from both Turkic and Russian backgrounds. It is famous for the Baikonur Cosmodrome, the world's largest and oldest space launch facility, leased to Russia.
