Syria
Syria , officially the Syrian Arab Republic, is a Middle Eastern country located on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea. It borders Lebanon and the Mediterranean Sea to the west, Turkey to the north, Iraq to the east, Jordan to the south, and Israel to the southwest. The capital is Damascus, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Syrian culture is rich and diverse, with historical influences including the Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, and Arabs. Syria is known for its historical and cultural heritage, with ancient sites such as Palmyra, the Citadel of Aleppo, and the Great Mosque of the Umayyads in Damascus. Syria's economy has traditionally been based on agriculture, industry, and oil, but the country has suffered severe damage and a humanitarian crisis due to the civil war that began in 2011.
