Tajikistan
Tajikistan, officially Republic of Tajikistan, is a country in Central Asia, bordering Afghanistan to the south, Uzbekistan to the west, Kyrgyzstan to the north, and China to the east. The capital is Dushanbe. Tajikistan is known for its mountainous landscape, with some of the highest peaks in the former Soviet Union. Tajik culture is influenced by a history of Persian, Russian, and Soviet rule, with a strong presence of Sunni Islam. Tajikistan's economy is one of the least developed in Central Asia, primarily based on agriculture and mineral resources, including aluminum and cotton. The country has faced significant challenges after gaining independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, including a civil war in the 1990s.
