Ginseng root extract is made from the Panax ginseng Mayer, the plant of the same name, which has interesting health properties and can also be used as a food.

Ginseng has been used by traditional medicine as a curative for at least 2,000 years.

The scientific literature agrees that ginseng is recognised as a natural antioxidant resource (1).

In this study, 13 ginsenosid triterpenic soaps, which exert a stimulating action of the immune system, are detected even if they are not present in the orally administered red ginseng extract. This means that ginsenosids were formed through human metabolism (2).

This study suggests that Rg3, one of the active components of red ginseng, has therapeutic potential targeting breast cancer stem cells (3).

Korean red Ginseng could help stabilize the sympathetic nervous system and improve cognition in individuals with high stress (4).

In addition, the saponins contained in ginseng have proven to be a promising drug candidate that can accelerate wound healing and reduce scar formation (5).

The amyloid beta peptide is known to be one of the main causes of the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease. Interestingly, red ginseng has been shown to have beneficial effects on this pathology. Red ginseng extract can be a mitochondria-targeting agent for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease (6).
