Plot
The film tells the story of Aldo Vanucci (played by Peter Sellers), a famous Italian jewel thief and con artist known as "The Fox" because of his cunning. After a series of successful crimes across Europe, Aldo Vanucci heads to Egypt with the goal of pulling off the boldest heist of his career: stealing a shipment of gold bars belonging to the Egyptian government.
To cover up his plan, Aldo pretends to be a Hollywood film director and convinces a legitimate director (played by Victor Mature) to shoot a movie in the Egyptian desert. This provides Aldo with the opportunity to use actors and extras to execute his audacious theft under everyone's noses.
However, things don't go exactly as planned, and Aldo finds himself embroiled in a series of comedic and chaotic situations as he tries to carry out his scheme.
"After the Fox" is a comedy that takes aim at the film industry, popular culture, and criminal ingenuity.

Critics' Reception: "After the Fox" received mixed reviews. Some critics appreciated the humor and satire of the film industry, while others found the plot to be overly farcical.
My opinion. Too bad, this film could have been a great movie given De Sica's direction and Neil Simon's screenplay, instead it is just a barely watchable little film.
Yet a lot of money was spent, with filming in Africa and Europe, but the flimsy, terse and unconnected plot makes this film just a little movie.
