Deck the Halls is a 2006 Christmas comedy directed by John Whitesell. The film revolves around the rivalry between two neighbors who try to outdo each other in decorating their houses for Christmas.
Plot
Steve Finch (played by Matthew Broderick) is a family man who loves preparing for Christmas early and maintaining impeccable traditions. However, his quiet life is disrupted when a new neighbor, Buddy Hall (played by Danny DeVito), moves into the house next door with his family.
Buddy is an eccentric man and wants to establish a new Christmas tradition for himself and his family: to light up his house in a way that it's visible from the moon. This goal directly challenges Steve's traditions and sparks a fierce competition between the two neighbors to see who can create the most spectacular Christmas decoration.
The rivalry between Steve and Buddy escalates as they try to outdo each other, leading to comedic and chaotic situations as they strive to achieve their Christmas dreams. Meanwhile, their families get involved in the competition and have to deal with the consequences of their actions.
"Deck the Halls" is a light Christmas comedy that explores themes of rivalry, traditions, and the true meaning of Christmas, all sprinkled with humorous moments.

Critics' Reception: "Deck the Halls" was generally received negatively by critics, with many criticizing it for its predictable plot and humor that was deemed forced. Despite this, some viewers found it to be an enjoyable family Christmas movie.
My opinion. Good little film set during the Christmas holidays with De Vito unleashed as a nonchalant car salesman who buys a new house and finds a rather old-fashioned optical awe-inspiring man as his neighbor.
Good laughs (though not too many) and pleasant to watch, but don't expect too much.
