Plot
The story follows Eddie Morra (played by Bradley Cooper), a struggling writer who is experiencing a series of personal and professional failures. His life takes a dramatic turn when he encounters his ex-brother-in-law, Vernon (played by Johnny Whitworth), who introduces him to a new experimental drug called NZT-48.
After taking NZT-48, Eddie discovers that he has access to all the capabilities of his brain. He becomes suddenly proficient in various disciplines, from writing to finance, and gains a photographic memory. His life takes an incredible upswing, and he quickly becomes wealthy and successful.
However, the drug has dangerous side effects, and Eddie realizes that he's not the only one using it. He becomes embroiled in a perilous world of intrigue, threats, and murder as he tries to protect himself and find a steady source of NZT-48.
The plot explores the boundaries of human intelligence, the ethics of scientific research, and the consequences of greed and power. Bradley Cooper delivers a memorable performance in the role of Eddie Morra.

Critical Reception: Limitless follows the story of Eddie Morra, portrayed by Bradley Cooper, a man who gains access to an experimental drug that unlocks the full potential of his brain. The film explores the advantages and disadvantages of this drug, called NZT-48, as Eddie gains extraordinary abilities but also becomes a target of dark forces. The film was praised for Bradley Cooper's performance and its intriguing concept. However, some reviews criticized the plot and its conclusion. Despite mixed reviews, Limitless was a box office success and spawned a television series adaptation.
De Niro, late in life, unfortunately continues to accept minor parts in films of secondary, or rather, tertiary importance.
In this hodgepodge of uncertain direction, jerky cinematography and cartoonish script, a writer takes from his drug-dealing brother-in-law, a new drug. The brother-in-law is immediately killed by strangers, and he becomes so smart that he sees things no one else can see, becoming extremely rich. It is not clear why, with all these powers that make him virtually immortal, he does not immediately intuit who it is who is after him and who manufactured the drug. Otherwise the movie would end there.
Then the smart guy loses the drugs, but gets them back after taking a lot of beating from the Russian mafia ... and so on.
Mediocre film with mediocre effects, mediocre violence that would induce torpor were it not for the cinematography and editing that provide for keeping the viewer awake with seizure-like flashes and unreal headache-inducing colors.
