It is used in the food, cosmetics and medical industries.
Medicine
It has an antioxidant, antibacterial and antimicrobial activity (1).
In particular, a monoterpene found in the essential oil of lemon and other citrus fruits, beta-mircene has demonstrated an inhibiting effect on gastric and duodenal ulcers (2).
The antifungal activity has also been widely demonstrated (3).
Food industry
Among other applications, it is used to increase the shelf life of persimmons (4).
