Caprylic/capric triglyceride or Caprylic/Capric Triglycerides are medium-chain lipids, triglycerides and esters produced from glycerine and fractionated vegetable oil, coconut oil, palm kernel oil.
They appear as a clear colourless liquid.
What it is used for and where
Cosmetics raw material
Significant substances present or used in the production method:
Glycerides, decanoyl, octanoyl, 1,2,3-propanetriol octanoate, Decanoic acid
Cosmetics
An emollient widely used in cosmetics, included in cosmetic products to increase smoothness and viscosity and to moisturise and replenish the skin. It consists of fatty acids, but does not grease the skin. Emollients have the characteristic of improving the skin barrier through a source of exogenous lipids that adhere to the skin, improving the barrier properties and protecting against inflammation.
Skin conditioning agent. An ingredient that is the mainstay of topical skin treatment by restoring, increasing or improving skin tolerance to external factors, including melanocyte tolerance. The most important function of the conditioning agent is to prevent skin dehydration, but the subject is rather complex and involves emollients and humectants.
Fragrance. It plays a very important role in the formulation of cosmetic products as it allows perfume to be enhanced, masked or added to the final product, improving its commercial viability. The consumer always expects to find a pleasant scent in a cosmetic product.
It also functions as a thickener and can be used in hair formulations. Antifreeze agent and stabiliser.
Medical
It is also used in medical science to improve fluid flow.
Food
A food additive is used to improve the flowability of the dough.
