Serum levels of choline and betaine showed strong prognostic value for the prediction of colon incidents, suggesting a role of choline and betaine metabolism in the pathogenesis of colon cancer (2).
Cholesterol is essential for neuronal development and brain function. Administration of betaine in ovo modulates hepatic cholesterol metabolism (3).
