Argynnis aglaia L. (Dark Green Fritillary) 

belongs to the Nymphalidae family and is widespread in Europe, the Americas, and Asia where it can be found at altitudes above 1,000 meters and up to 2,000 meters.

It is a fairly common butterfly and is currently not endangered.

Distribution. Dark Green Fritillary is widespread throughout Europe, parts of Asia, and North Africa, favoring open woodland habitats and clearings.

Morphology.

Size: Its wingspan typically ranges between 6.5 to 7.5 cm.

Weight: As with many other butterflies, the Dark Green Fritillary's weight is estimated to be just a few grams.

Colors: It sports bright orange wings with scattered black spots and a series of white and orange patches on the underside border of the hindwings.

Life Cycle. The Dark Green Fritillary undergoes full metamorphosis. Caterpillars feed on several species of violets as host plants.

Dietary Habits. While caterpillars munch on violet leaves, adult butterflies seek nectar from a variety of flowers.

Conservation Status. In some areas, the Dark Green Fritillary is declining due to habitat loss and other human-induced factors.
