Shark liver oil is extracted from different species of sharks: Echinorhinus brucus, Centrophorus squamosus, Isistius brasiliensis, Etmopterus spinax, Etmopterus molleri, etc.

This oil contains glycerolipids Alkyl-ether-lipids (AEL) which have a long fatty alkyl chain connected to the glycerol unit. AEL exerts stimulating activity on the immune system (1) and anti-tumor activity (2), wound healing activities (3), dermatitis (4)

Echinorhinus brucus liver oil contains squalene (35%), docosahexaenoic acid (18%), eicosapentaenoic acid (18%), palmitic acid (15%), oleic acid (12%), stearic acid (8%), as well as vitamin A (17.08 mg/100 g), vitamin D (15.04 mg/100 g), vitamin K (11.45 mg/100 g) (5).

The most abundant component, squalene, triterpene, is structurally similar to beta-carotene, coenzyme Q10 and vitamins A, K and E and performs cardio-protective action (6).
