Supplements and medicines are examined and evaluated here solely from the point of view of their chemical composition, based on relevant scientific studies. No medical opinion is expressed on curative functions. This is a prescription-only medicine for which the opinion must be expressed by the treating physician.
Let us examine the most significant ingredients in order of quantity as indicated on the label. I provide a brief summary for reasons of space. For the full text, studies and bibliography, just click on the ingredient and, if you want to go deeper, it is perhaps a little complex reading because these are scientific studies, but it clarifies the ingredient/health relationship.
Let's see what ingredients are included in this product with a link to the description on Tiiips ne which reports the scientific studies:
Rosuvastatina. A hypolipidemic drug, i.e., with activity in reducing levels of harmful LDL cholesterol and anti-inflammatory, totally synthetic statin. Statins have irrefutably demonstrated their efficacy in reducing cardiovascular risk.
Ezetimibe is a cholesterol absorption inhibitor with lipid-lowering activity and is a derivative of azetidinone. Ezetimibe significantly reduces the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke with no effect on all-cause mortality either cardiovascular or cancer risk.
E460 Cellulosa microcristallina. It is obtained by chemical process from various plants, non-toxic, biodegradable, biocompatible.
E551 Silice colloidale. An anti-caking additive, not genotoxic, but still in the form of nanoparticles has drawn attention to the problem of air pollution.
E572 Magnesio stearato. An excipient for oral solid dosage forms. It is used as an essential lubricant in the manufacture of tablets and its effect on tablet dissolution, disintegration and hardness.
E1201 Povidone. A synthetic polymer used in the pharmaceutical industry with the function of dispersing and suspending drug release.
E468 Croscarmellosa sodica. An emulsifying chemical compound formed from raw cellulose treated with sodium compounds. It is used to enhance and accelerate drug release in the bowel.
E421 Mannitolo. A natural alcohol, used as an emulsifier and stabilizing agent.
E514 Sodio laurisolfato. Multifunctional chemical compound, diluent about which there is a lot of not-so-favorable scientific literature.
E463 Idrossipropilcellulosa. In the pharmaceutical industry, it is used as a drug carrier, emulsion stabilizer, binder, thickener.
E171 - Biossido di titanio It is now present in many applications: cosmetics, paints, papers, pharmaceutical additives, sunscreens as a UV filter, toothpastes as a whitener, coating of medicinal tablets. Banned in France since 2019.
It was discovered that nanoparticles of this chemical compound are able to bypass our immune system.
E172 Ossido di ferro giallo. Iron oxide and hydroxide are variously colored chemicals used as food additives in the food industry and are labeled with the number E172 as food additives. Specifically, yellow iron oxide is labeled as E172(iii).Synthetic dyes have numerous and proven contraindications pointed out by several scientific studies.
Conclusions
It is well established that Rosuvastatin and Ezetimibe do the job, but the component I am most concerned about is E171 Titanium Dioxide for which the EMA (European Medicines Agency) stated, "a concern for genotoxicity cannot be ruled out, and given the many uncertainties, E 171 can no longer be considered safe when used as a food additive." What's more, this component is included twice: in the tablet wrapper and in the body.
Frankly, I cannot understand how medicinal tablets with less than healthy components can freely circulate. On the other hand, pharmaceutical companies respond that the component is duly authorized....
However I reported the problem to my physician who immediately replaced this Cholecomb with ROSUMIBE by PIAM, tablets that contain the same quantities of both Rosuvastatin and Ezetimibe, but do not contain E171 Titanium Dioxide.
As an alternative he prescribed me ROSUVASTATIN + EZETIMIBE 10+10 mg DOC which has the same active ingredients and does not contain E171 Titanium Dioxide.
My physician basically states that the amounts of E171 Titanium Dioxide are small, but since this is a drug that is taken daily for years, a genotoxic concern cannot be ruled out.
