Abstract. Approximately 70-75% of women will have vulvovaginal candidosis (VVC) at least once in their lifetime. In premenopausal, pregnant, asymptomatic and healthy women and women with acute VVC, Candida albicans is the predominant species. The diagnosis of VVC should be based on clinical symptoms and microscopic detection of pseudohyphae. Symptoms alone do not allow reliable differentiation of the causes of vaginitis.

Abstract: The injudicious use of antifungals, indiscriminate use of corticosteroids for instant relief, persistence of predisposing factors like sweat retention and uncontrolled diabetes, and emerging resistance to antifungals across the globe have rendered the management of an erstwhile simple infection, the superficial cutaneous mycoses highly complicated and tricky. Ciclopirox is an old yet efficacious, versatile, and safe topical antifungal of the hydroxypyridone family. Despite its numerous beneficial properties over the majority of other topical antifungals, it remains underutilized.

The efficacy of ciclopirox olamine cream has been demonstrated in open and placebo-controlled studies in patients with superficial dermatophyte or yeast infections, and in double-blind comparative trials in patients with dermatomycoses, topical ciclopirox olamine was comparable to or better than clotrimazole in efficacy and caused a similar number of side effects.

Abstract. Seborrheic dermatitis is a chronic dermatosis, more common in men than women, which usually occurs in sites dense with sebaceous glands in the form of mild inflammatory desquamate erythema. Treatment modalities for seborrheic dermatitis include keratolytic agents, corticosteroids and antifungal agents. Due to its antimycotic and anti-inflammatory activities, ciclopirox olamine is established as an effective treatment for this condition.

Abstract. Onychomycosis is a chronic fungal infection of the fingernail or toenail bed leading to brittle, discolored, and thickened nails. Onychomycosis is not just a cosmetic problem. Untreated onychomycosis can cause pain, discomfort, and physical impairment, negatively impacting quality of life. Onychomycosis should be suspected in patients with discolored nails, nail plate thickening, nail separation, and foul-smelling nails.
