Biosaccharide gum-2 is a chemical compound, a deacetylated anionic polysaccharide with a high molecular weight and branched structure, a product obtained from sorbitol by a bacterial fermentation process in which trisaccharides of galacturonic acid, rhamnose, L-fucose, D-galactose are directly or separately involved and the fungus Schizophyllum commune belonging to the family Schizophyllaceae.
The name defines the structure of the molecule:
- Biosaccharide refers to a type of polysaccharide, a large molecule composed of many sugar molecules. " Bio" indicates that it is derived from a biological source.
- Gum-2 a specification used by the manufacturer to differentiate this particular type of Biosaccharide rubber.
The synthesis process takes place in several stages:
- Cultivation of the fungus. The Schizophyllum commune fungus is grown in suitable soil that provides the necessary nutrients for its growth. This fungus contains carbon and nitrogen sources, such as glucose and peptone.
- Production of polysaccharide. The growth of the fungus produces polysaccharide as part of its metabolic processes, and the production of polysaccharide typically occurs in a bioreactor under controlled conditions of temperature, pH, and aeration.
- Extraction of the polysaccharide. When the fungus has produced a sufficient amount of polysaccharide, it is extracted from the culture medium and treated by centrifugation or filtration to separate the polysaccharide from the cells and medium.
- Purification of the polysaccharide. The extracted polysaccharide is purified to remove any remaining impurities with a series of steps, including precipitation, dialysis and freeze-drying.
- Characterization and testing. The final product is characterized and tested to ensure that it meets the required specifications. This may involve testing for molecular weight, viscosity, and other physical and chemical properties.
What it is used for and where
Biosaccharide Gum-2 is a specific type of polysaccharide gum derived from a biological source. It is often used in cosmetics and personal care products for its ability to condition the skin.
Cosmetics
Film-forming agent. It produces a continuous ultra-thin film with an optimal balance of cohesion, adhesion and stickiness on the skin or hair to counteract or limit damage from external phenomena such as chemicals, UV rays and pollution.
Skin conditioning agent - Miscellaneous. This ingredient has the task of modifying the condition of the skin when it is damaged or dry by reducing its flakiness and restoring its elasticity.
Antimicrobial agent. This ingredient is able to suppress or inhibit the growth and replication of a broad spectrum of microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi and viruses by making the stratum corneum temporarily bactericidal and fungicidal.
